Hello Parents!
I hope you had a fun Halloween! I saw lots of you at the carnival and it
seemed like everyone was having a good time.
We are so lucky to have such a strong PTA at our school. Our PTA planned the entire carnival. We are also grateful to the high school volunteers
who came and helped out.
I want to make sure you know about a few other things going
on here at school. Our teachers have
been involved in some exciting projects designed to improve our students’
academic growth. One important project
has been the creation of math curriculum maps.
The teachers have spent quite a few hours creating curriculum maps that
guide their instruction for the whole school year. The maps are based on the state standards and
help the teachers establish how topics will be taught and at what pace and what
will be tested and when. They also
establish what skills need to be mastered before moving on. The teachers have also planned math tasking
activities that are being done regularly in every classroom.
Our teachers have also been learning more about depth of
knowledge in instruction. Depth of
knowledge, or DOK, is a concept that teachers use to help them guide students
into deeper thinking and problem solving.
We believe that DOK is critical to prepare students for higher education
and the competitive world they will be entering.
If you have any questions about these concepts or anything
else at our school, please give me a call!
